Balanced diet and exercise can help in heart disease

CCL, Pakistan Cardiovascular Forum and Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman Society organize a public awareness seminar in Karachi titled, ‘Be a Heart Hero’

KARACHI, NOV. 2019: A seminar titled “Be A Heart Hero,” was recently held to mark the globally celebrated day, World Heart Day by CCL Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with the Pakistan Cardiovascular Forum and Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman Memorial Society (MKRMS), at a local hotel in Karachi. The seminar was attended by over 100 people from all walks of life.

CCL’s senior managers and leading cardiologists were present on this occasion and shared their views related to heart diseases. Dr. Ejaz Ahmad Vohra, Consultant Cardiologist and some of the leading cardiologists like Professor Dr. Feroz Ahmad Memon, Professor Dr. Mansoor Ahmad, Dr. Fawad Farooq, Professor Dr. Abdul Rasheed, Professor Dr. Ishtiaq Rasool, Dr. Muhammad Ishaq, Dr. Khalida Samoo, and Dr. Tariq Ashraf were included in the panel of experts.

“We are pleased to welcome you to this insightful seminar on World Heart Day,” remarked Syed Muhammad Burhan, Assistant Product Manager, CCL Pharmaceuticals. He presented the note of thanks and Wasif Nagi, Senior Editor Health Education, Current Affairs and President of MKRMS-Jang hosted the seminar.

“In 2016, 72% of global deaths were caused by non-communicable diseases (NCD) – blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). According to the World Health Organization (WHO) statistics for Pakistan in 2015, half of the 132,000 deaths were caused by non-communicable disease. In our country, nutrition, water pollution and poor sanitation are some of the factors, which have resulted in spreading communicable diseases; one such example is that of the dengue fever,” remarked Professor Dr. Ejaz Ahmad Vohra, Consultant Cardiologist.

The World Heart Federation (WHF) continues to be the principal representative body for the cardiovascular community, including the national and continental cardiology scientific societies and foundations, and representing the scientific, medical and professional communities, as well as patients and charitable organizations.

Professor Dr. Ishitaq Rasool said, “Obesity is the root cause of all diseases and there are at least 5 things in our diet which are detrimental to our health, i.e., excessive oil, too much salt, use of white sugar, white flour, rice,” he added.

Dr. Khalida Samoo said that due to lack of physical activity in our life we are facing many challenges such as obesity, sedentary lifestyle and all these things are promoting chronic arterial diseases. “Regular exercise, yoga and a healthy diet can go a long way in improving our lifestyle and general well-being,” she added. Adding our diet with fresh fruits and vegetables and 35 to 40 minutes of walk are the key factors to improve our lives. Later participants asked many relevant questions to the experts.
