KARACHI, FEB. 2019: CCL’s Neuropsychiatry team recently held a public awareness session on the topic of ‘youth and mental health,’ at Karachi’s Gulshan Government Girls College by consultant psychiatrist Dr. Saima Qureshi. The session was attended by over 100 students. It is part of CCL’s CSR initiative and aims to create more awareness about the role of mental wellbeing held under the banner of “Let’s Fight Together.”
Dr. Saima discussed the issues of mental health and Pakistan’s healthcare system. Talking about the issue of depression among young girls she emphasized that parents should take the initiative to take their child to a psychiatrist so it is not deemed a taboo.
“We all need to work on the social stigma associated with visiting a psychiatrist. Besides every girl should have a faithful friend to share her views and thoughts.” The session was signed off with questions from the audience.
